About this video

Four 'steady climbers' describe moving up step by step within one field. A hotel front desk worker became vice president of hotel operations, a call center worker became an area manager, an analyst rose to portfolio manager, and a reporter became a news anchor.

You'll be able to

  • explain what a 'steady climber' career path is.
  • describe the steps one speaker took to move up in their field.
  • compare a steady climb with other kinds of career paths.

Transcript

(upbeat music) - And what I mean by that is, working frontline positions from my front desk, night auditor, different things of that capacity, working my way all the way up to vice president of hotel operations.

- My career through the call center, I became what they called a coach, which is somebody who supervised the representatives who answered the phones, and then I became area manager in the call center.

- And so I started there, worked, you know, for four or five years, and was basically promoted from junior to mid-level to senior, and finally to portfolio manager, which is what I am now.

- And my journey here was I started as a reporter and then fill-in anchor, and finally anchor. And now I anchor three shows a day here at ABC7 in San Francisco.
