About this video

Four people describe what a typical day looks like in their jobs: a factory engineer in a hazmat suit troubleshooting machines, someone on calls with startup customers across many industries, an inspector arriving at a construction site at 6 or 7 AM, and a worker who starts with early Teams calls then commutes by BART to a San Francisco office. The video shows that similar work can happen in very different settings and schedules.

You'll be able to

  • describe how a workday can look different from job to job.
  • identify differences in work setting, schedule and tasks.
  • explain why the 'way' you work matters, not just the type of work.

(lively music) - So a lot of my job is supporting a factory. So pretty often in my experience, I'll wear like a chemical hazmat suit and go into the factory. It's a lot of troubleshooting heavy machinery, like etching, lithography, planarization tools, also running experiments and then collecting that data and using that to prove or disprove that a change in the process worked or didn't work or, you know, it was worth the effort for the improvement or not.

- My days can look very different, but an example of what types of work I'll do throughout the week is I'll spend some time being on customer calls. So I've worked with customers that are small startups that work in manufacturing, healthcare, retail, electric vehicle, across the whole gamut.

- A day in the field is gonna look like getting to a job site bright and early. Construction projects typically start around 6 AM, if not 7. So you'll get there when the job site opens, you'll meet the folks you're gonna be walking around with, get the lay of the land if you haven't been to that job site before.

- So I wake up, hop on immediate tTams calls as probably as early as 7 o'clock, sometimes 6 in the morning mainly because currently, I'm on the East Coast team, right? So changes with the time change. And then I head to San Francisco, right? So I take the BART there and then I go into our office and our office is right next to the Giants Stadium in San Francisco, which is pretty cool.
