Bodh Gaya: center of the Buddhist world
About this video
Bodh Gaya in eastern India is where Prince Siddhartha attained enlightenment under the Bodhi tree about 2,500 years ago and became the Buddha. Today it is a major pilgrimage site centered on a descendant of the original Bodhi tree, Emperor Ashoka's stone platform and the Mahabodhi temple. Although Buddhism declined in India, Bodh Gaya's legacy spread across Asia, and pilgrims from many countries still visit.
