How lessons work

What is a study party?

A study party is our name for a scheduled live lesson: your batch watches the same videos in sync, and the video pauses for check-ins (quick questions and moments to think) that everyone answers together. Each one is a 40-minute period on one topic.

  1. Everyone joins at once

At the scheduled time the whole batch starts the same video, so nobody watches alone.

  2. The video pauses for a check-in

Predict what comes next, try a problem first, or explain an idea in your own words.

  3. Same time to answer

Everyone gets the same countdown, then sees the answer and how the batch did.

  4. Talk, then practise

A question to discuss together, then practice on Khan Academy to lock it in.

Self-run

The timetable starts the party, the video keeps everyone in sync and the check-ins do the asking. Great for confident learners and small groups of friends.

Teacher-led

A teacher or guide hosts the party, pauses for discussion and sees how the batch is doing. Some classes have one; the party works either way.

Catch-up

Missed one? Watch it later at your own pace, with the same check-ins. The video waits for each answer.

Timetables

A timetable that fits your family

Every class runs on a real timetable, with subjects rotating through the week, unit reviews, and weekends and holidays off. Choose the shape of the day:

Full school day

4 periods from 09:00, about 3 hours, with breaks. For homeschool families.

Half day

2 periods from 09:30. A lighter rhythm alongside other learning.

After-school club

1 period at 16:30, for students in school who want to learn ahead.

Evening club

2 periods from 18:00, with a short break.

Your week, sorted

The Today page shows what's live and what's next. Classes start on set dates and run for a term, six months or a year.

  • View every class as a UK year, a US grade or a school stage.
  • Maths and English follow Khan Academy's grade-level courses; science and history come from their middle and high school courses.
  • Missed a study party? It waits in catch-up, with the same check-ins.

Study with friends

Start your own study group

You don't need a teacher to learn together. Pick a year and a time, invite your friends with a code, and do the study parties as a group. The videos pause for everyone at once, so you can talk about each question together.

  • Free, private and invite-only, with up to 12 friends.
  • 13 or older? Start a peer study group yourself, in a minute.
  • Younger? A parent sets up the group for you, and can host if they like.
👋

Learning is better together

Puzzicle exists to help students learn and to enjoy learning with other people. Study groups are one more way to do that.

Questions families ask

Who is it for?

Puzzicle is for curious learners from kindergarten to Grade 12 (Year 1 to Year 13) who want to accelerate: homeschooled children, students in school who want more, families moving between countries, and high-achievers flying through their current work. Parents can see every progress point. Teachers and schools can run their own classes too.

What is a study party?

A scheduled live lesson. A batch of up to 12 students watches the same video playlist in sync. The video pauses for check-ins (quick questions and thinking moments), everyone gets the same time to answer, then sees the answer and how the batch answered. Some are led by a tutor or guide; others run peer-led. Each ends with a discussion prompt and practice work.

What is a batch?

A small closed cohort of up to 12 students in the same class. Students can start a batch and invite friends with a code, or join one that has space. Everyone follows the same timetable and sees each other's progress.

What if my child misses a live party?

Every study party is available in catch-up mode later. The check-ins are the same, but the video waits for each answer instead of keeping time with the batch.

Which curriculum does it follow?

Each year group follows Khan Academy's US grade-level courses for maths and English, with science and history from their middle and high school courses. You can view every class as a UK year group, US grade, or school stage.

How much screen time is it?

A full school day is about three hours, in four periods with breaks. Lighter schedules include a half day (two periods), an after-school club (one period), or an evening club. Many families use ${SITE.name} alongside other learning.

If something goes wrong

Study parties carry on by themselves if a teacher's connection drops, and if yours drops, everything you missed is in Catch up. Nobody is marked absent for technical issues: students can flag "connection problems" and it doesn't count. If a teacher has to cancel, the party moves to Catch up and a make-up party can be scheduled. Before your first party, try Test my setup at https://puzzicle.org/app/#/setup-check.

What does it cost?

Puzzicle is free, and so is everything on the site. We are non-commercial and run on donations. Tutors and schools who run their own classes here charge for their teaching time; we take nothing from that.
